The Ayrburn project, by Winton, is a stunning example of how thoughtful plant selection and expert collaboration can elevate a space from merely attractive to genuinely sustainable and vibrant. We talk with The Plant Store’s Michael Tither about this exceptional project.

The Plant Store has supplied plants for many of Winton’s subdivisions before, specifically Northlake, but the Ayrburn project has been far more collaborative. The project's landscape design, a melding of vision and practicality, showcases the expertise of both Winton's landscape architect George Watts, and The Plant Store's deep knowledge of horticulture.

“Winton have their own landscape architects who are very, very good. We worked with George, the project lead, choosing plants that would work for their vision.”

Every large-scale project comes with its set of challenges, and Ayrburn was no different. Managing the supply of over 6,570 plants across 24 varieties meant detailed coordination with multiple growers, and in a post-COVID landscape, the logistics became complex. Regardless of the circumstances, each plant needed to be delivered in peak condition, ready to thrive in its new home.

“Some plants hold, some do not. In the height of the season, you only have three weeks with some of the perennials before they start declining.”

For Michael and The Plant Store, the most fulfilling aspect of this project was witnessing the transformation of the landscape upon completion, with every plant contributing to an elegant, cohesive whole. The Ayrburn project is a reflection of what's possible when expertise in plant selection is combined with a collaborative spirit.
