Lavender Super is a robust and highly aromatic variety of lavender, known for its large, fragrant purple flower spikes and silvery-green foliage. This evergreen shrub flowers prolifically during summer, attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. Its long stems and strong scent make it a favourite for both garden displays and dried flower arrangements. It produces one of the highest yields of lavender oil, thus it is a variety favoured for it's high-quality fragrance.
This lavender variety is perfect for cottage gardens, Mediterranean-style, and contempory gardens. Its upright, bushy form also works well as a low hedge or border plant. Prefers a sunny position in well-drained soils, making it perfect for gravel or sandy beds. Once established, it is drought-tolerant, requiring little water.
Grows to 80cm high x 60cm wide.
Trimming: Trim Lavender Super lightly after the main flowering period in late summer to maintain its shape and encourage bushy growth. In early spring, remove any dead or damaged stems to promote healthy new growth.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flower spikes to encourage continuous flowering and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Lavender Super thrives in moderately fertile soil. Apply a light dose of balanced fertiliser in early spring if necessary, but avoid over-fertilising, as this can reduce the plant’s fragrance and flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase, ensuring the soil is well-draining. Once established, Lavender Super is drought-tolerant and should only be watered during extended dry spells.
Pest Control: Inspect for aphids and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil if they occur.
Disease Management: Monitor for signs of root rot and lavender shab. Ensure the soil has good drainage to prevent root rot, and avoid overwatering. Remove and destroy any affected plant parts to control lavender shab. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to reduce the risk of disease.
