Viburnum davidii is a hardy, evergreen shrub valued for its glossy, dark green foliage with distinctive veining and a naturally mounded habit. In Spring, it produces small clusters of white flowers, which—when both male and female plants are present—are followed by metallic blue berries in Autumn, adding ornamental interest.

Ideal for borders, mass planting, underplanting, or foundation planting. Suits woodland, formal, and low-maintenance garden styles.

Performs best in partial shade to full sun with moist, well-drained soil. Tolerates a range of conditions once established. Space plants about 80–100 cm apart to form a dense, low-growing shrub layer.

Grows to approximately 1–1.2 metres tall and 1.5–2 metres wide, forming a broad, dome-shaped shrub.

Trimming: Minimal trimming is needed. Lightly prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and maintain a neat, low-mounding shape.

Deadheading: Not required. However, spent flower heads can be removed for tidiness if desired.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support healthy foliage and flower development.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, Viburnum davidii is tolerant of dry conditions but performs best with consistent moisture, particularly during extended dry periods.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally, aphids may appear—treat with insecticidal soap if necessary.

Disease Management: Typically disease-resistant. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot and remove any yellowing or spotted leaves to maintain plant health. Maintain airflow by avoiding overcrowding in mass plantings.
