Project Brief
The Plant Store was commissioned with creating a comprehensive planting plan for a muli-lot subdivision in Wanaka. The objective was to develop a landscape that integrated seamlessly with the neighboring property using suitable plants to create a unified aesthetic. Additionally, we worked closely with individual property owners to accommodate specific needs and preferences, making necessary tweaks to the overall plan while maintaining the cohesive design.

Why We Chose These Plants

For this multi-lot subdivision in Wanaka, we crafted a planting plan that integrates seamlessly with neighboring properties while reflecting individual property owners' preferences. The objective was to use a predominantly native palette with strategic pops of exotic species to add seasonality.

Pittosporum Golf Ball was selected for its compact, rounded form, providing neat structure across the lots. Lomandra Tanika offers a soft, grassy texture with minimal maintenance, blending effortlessly with the native theme. Viburnum davidii adds lush, evergreen foliage, creating a continuous green backdrop that ties the spaces together.

To introduce movement and texture, we included Chionochloa flavicans and Chionochloa rubra for their graceful, arching blades and striking reddish tones. Pittosporum Stevens Island enhances privacy and structure with its dense foliage. Hebe Oratia Beauty and Hebe Emerald Green provide contrasting bun shape textures and vibrant color.

Phormium Emerald Green offers bold, architectural lines, while Miscanthus gracillimus contributes a soft, flowing texture with its feathery plumes. Gaura Soda Pop ensures a lengthy flowering period  from summer to autumn, and Echinacea Purpurea introduces vibrant purple tones and attracts pollinators. Bergenia Wanaka Snow provides lush foliage and white flowers dotted up the main entry pathway.

The trees were selected as standout features to provide strategic screening between properties and striking autumn colors. Pyrus Aristocrat, Acer Jeffersred, and Acer Bloodgood add vertical interest and dynamic seasonal color with their elegant forms and autumn foliage. Pseudopanax Crassifolius brings unique, architectural leaves to frame the houses and create a distinctive arrival point.
