Spring flowering trees carry a garden through September, October and November, when the rest of the planting is only starting to move.

Flowering cherries flower September into October, in white through to deep pink. Deciduous magnolias flower earlier, on bare wood, before the leaves appear. Crab apples follow into October and hold small fruit through autumn.

Most spring flowering trees want full sun. Flowering drops away in shade. Check the mature height and spread against your space before you buy, particularly near boundaries and drives.
