Acer Wilson's Pink Dwarf

Acer palmatum Wilson's Pink Dwarf is a charming compact Japanese maple prized for its vivid spring colour and petite form. New growth bursts forth in bright pink tones, gradually softening to light green as the season progresses. During autumn, the foliage shifts again, glowing with warm shades of orange and red. With its small size, rounded habit, and fine foliage, this cultivar is perfect for spaces needing a splash of seasonal vibrancy without overwhelming the garden.

Well-suited to container planting, rock gardens, courtyard spaces, and as a standout in Japanese or urban-style landscapes. Thrives in a sheltered location with dappled light or morning sun, away from harsh wind and intense afternoon heat. Prefers moist, free-draining soil rich in organic matter and should be spaced 1-1.2 metres from other plants for healthy development.

Matures to around 1-1.2 metres tall and wide, forming a compact, rounded shrub with brilliant seasonal transitions.

Trimming: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to remove dead or congested growth and refine the shape. Avoid heavy pruning and do not trim during late summer or autumn, as this can lead to frost-sensitive regrowth.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, low-nitrogen, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support steady growth and vibrant seasonal colour without encouraging overly soft new shoots.

Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, particularly during dry spells and summer heat. Water deeply during establishment and maintain consistent moisture to support strong seasonal transitions, avoiding waterlogged or overly dry soil.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free, though aphids or scale may appear on new growth in spring. Treat early with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil if required.

Disease Management: Can be prone to root rot and leaf scorch if overexposed or poorly sited. Provide well-drained soil, avoid full afternoon sun and strong wind, and ensure regular watering to maintain plant health and leaf quality.
