Westringia fruticosa Mundi
Westringia fruticosa WES05 PVR Mundi, commonly known as Westringia Mundi, is a hardy, low-growing evergreen groundcover with fine, grey-green foliage and small, pale mauve to white flowers that appear throughout the year, peaking in spring and summer. Its dense, spreading habit makes it perfect for stabilising slopes, softening garden edges, or as a drought-tolerant groundcover.
Ideal for coastal, native, or Mediterranean-style gardens, Westringia Mundi thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of well-draining soils. It is highly drought-tolerant and wind-resistant, making it an excellent choice for exposed or low-maintenance areas. Space plants 50–70 cm apart for full coverage.
This compact and spreading plant grows to a mature height of approximately 30 cm and spreads up to 1.5 metres, forming a tidy, low-maintenance groundcover that requires little pruning.
Trimming: Prune lightly after flowering or as needed to maintain its low, spreading habit. Regular trimming helps encourage dense growth and keeps the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertiliser in spring to support growth. Westringia thrives in nutrient-poor soils, so minimal fertilising is sufficient.
Watering: Drought-tolerant once established but benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Avoid overwatering.
Pest Control: Rarely affected by pests. Inspect occasionally for general garden pests, such as aphids or scale, and treat if necessary.
Disease Management: Generally disease-resistant. Ensure well-drained soil to prevent root rot, especially in heavy or poorly draining conditions.
