Rhaphiolepis umbellata

Rhaphiolepis umbellata, commonly known as Yeddo hawthorn, is a compact, evergreen shrub known for its glossy, dark-green leaves and clusters of fragrant, white to pale-pink flowers. This hardy plant is versatile in the landscape, offering year-round interest and a flush of flowers in late winter to early spring.

Yeddo hawthorn is excellent for low hedges, borders, and mixed planting, fitting well in both formal and informal garden designs. Its dense, mounded form provides a neat appearance with minimal pruning, making it a low-maintenance choice for busy gardeners.

Thriving in full sun to partial shade, Rhaphiolepis umbellata is adaptable to a variety of soil types, though it prefers well-draining conditions. It is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for water-wise gardens.

When planting, consider spacing plants about 1m apart to allow for their mature spread. This spacing will enable them to form a continuous hedge or fill in a border effectively.

Rhaphiolepis umbellata reaches a mature size of approximately 1-2m in height and width.
