Myoporum parvifolium
Notify MeMyoporum parvifolium is a fast-spreading, evergreen groundcover known for its fine, bright green foliage and dense, mat-forming habit. From late Spring through to early Autumn, it produces small, white, star-shaped flowers that attract pollinators and add soft seasonal interest. Its quick growth and trailing form make it highly effective for erosion control and weed suppression.
Perfect for native, coastal, or low-maintenance gardens, Myoporum parvifolium is ideal for banks, retaining walls, rockeries, or as a living mulch. It thrives in full sun with free-draining soil and is tolerant of dry conditions, salt, and light frost once established. Space approximately 50-60 cm apart to achieve full coverage.
Forms a low, spreading mat approximately 10-15 cm high and up to 1.5 metres wide.
Trimming: Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a neat, dense form and prevent it from becoming too woody or sprawling. Regular light pruning also encourages fresh, compact growth. Ideal for use as a ground cover or trailing plant.
Deadheading: Not necessary, as spent flowers fall naturally and do not impact plant health or appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, low-phosphorus, slow-release fertiliser in early spring if growth appears weak or pale. Over-fertilising is unnecessary and may reduce drought tolerance.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Myoporum parvifolium is highly drought tolerant and requires only occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally, sap-sucking insects such as scale may appear-treat with horticultural oil if needed.
Disease Management: Rarely troubled by disease. Ensure well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Avoid overhead watering and remove any dieback promptly to maintain airflow and prevent fungal issues.
