Loropetalum Burgundy. An evergreen shrub with deep burgundy-wine foliage forming an elegant, arching habit as the plant matures. In spring and summer dark-pink flowers appear, which makes it a stunning contrast shrub when planted with other green foliage plants.
Trimming: Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. For hedging, clip as needed through the growing season, avoiding heavy cuts into old wood.
Deadheading: Deadheading is not usually required, but spent flowers can be lightly trimmed off after flowering to keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a slow-release fertiliser for acid-loving plants in spring to support healthy foliage colour and flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment, especially through the first summer. Once established, water during extreme dry periods, keeping the soil moist but well drained.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids, mites, and scale. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
Disease Management: Monitor for root rot, leaf spot, and powdery mildew. Signs include yellowing leaves, dark or spotted foliage, white powdery growth, wilting, or branch dieback. Improve drainage, increase airflow, remove affected foliage, and use an appropriate fungicide if required.
