Lagerstroemia indica Tuscarora is a striking deciduous shrub or small tree prized for its vivid coral-pink flowers and attractive bark. From mid-summer to early autumn, it produces large clusters of blossoms that create a bold splash of colour. The dark green foliage transitions to brilliant shades of orange and red in autumn, while its smooth, mottled bark adds year-round interest.

Ideal for contemporary, Mediterranean, and cottage gardens, this hardy crepe myrtle thrives in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. Perfect as a specimen tree, in mixed borders, or as part of a flowering hedge. Space plants 2.5 to 3m apart to allow their vase-shaped form to develop fully. Reaches a mature height of 4.5 to 6m with a spread of 3 to 4m, offering long-lasting seasonal beauty.

Trimming: Prune Lagerstroemia Tuscarora in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to promote a strong structure. Lightly shape the plant as needed to maintain its form and encourage vigorous flowering.

Deadheading: Remove spent flower clusters to encourage continuous flowering and maintain a tidy appearance. Cut the flower stems just above the first set of healthy leaves.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth and abundant flowering. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct dosage. A second light feeding in mid-summer can help prolong the flowering period.

Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist but well-drained. Lagerstroemia Tuscarora prefers soil that is not waterlogged to prevent root rot.

Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and scale insects. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Regular inspections can help catch problems early.

Disease Management: Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and leaf spot. Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of these diseases. Remove and destroy any affected foliage and treat with a fungicide if necessary. Maintain good garden hygiene to minimise disease risk.
