Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Dainty White
Notify MeHibiscus rosa-sinensis Dainty White is an evergreen shrub producing delicate white, slightly ruffled flowers with a soft pink flush and a deep red centre. Flowering from spring through to autumn, it adds a refined tropical touch to borders, feature plantings, or large containers in warm, sheltered areas.
Plant in full sun with rich, free-draining soil. Water regularly and feed during the growing season to encourage strong flowering. Protect from frost and cold winds. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy new growth. Space plants 1 to 1.5 metres apart for best effect.
Grows to around 2 to 3 metres tall and 1.5 to 2 metres wide.
Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and encourage vigorous new growth. Light trimming after flowering helps maintain a compact habit and may support repeat flowering.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage ongoing flowering and maintain a tidy appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring. For best flowering, feed every two to four weeks during the growing season with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser.
Watering: Water consistently during establishment and dry weather. Keep the soil evenly moist but free-draining. Avoid both waterlogging and prolonged dryness.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites on soft new growth. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to minimise fungal problems such as leaf spot. Remove any yellowing or affected leaves promptly and use well-drained soil to prevent root rot.
