Erica Kramer's Red is an attractive, small, evergreen shrub with dark-green foliage. Unparalleled among red flowering ericas, it produces magenta-red blooms which hang off the stems,  hiding the foliage. Best planted in full sun and well-drained soil. Looks great in rock gardens, planted on slopes, coastal gardens, cottage gardens and containers.  Attractive to birds and bees.  Hardy plants which are low maintenance. Grows up to 60cm tall and 80cm wide.

Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Avoid cutting into old wood as it may not regenerate.

Deadheading: Deadhead spent flowers to promote new growth and extend the flowering period.

Fertilising: Use an acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring. Avoid using lime or high-pH fertilisers as they can harm the plant.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and during dry periods. Ensure the soil remains moist but well-drained, as Erica prefers not to sit in waterlogged conditions.

Pest Control: Monitor for pests such as aphids and spider mites. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations are noted.

Disease Management: Watch for signs of fungal diseases such as root rot and powdery mildew. Ensure proper drainage and good air circulation to prevent these issues. If root rot occurs, improve soil conditions and remove affected plants. Treat powdery mildew with appropriate fungicides.
