Boronia Lutea

Plant in partial shade with moist, free-draining, acidic to neutral soil. Protect from strong winds and avoid overly dry or saturated soils. Allow 1–1.2m spacing for healthy growth and airflow.
Mature size: Upright and lightly open in form, reaching around 1.5–2m tall and 1–1.2m wide.
Trimming: Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a neat, compact shape and encourage bushy growth. Take care not to cut into old wood, as Boronia lutea can be slow to recover from heavy pruning.
Deadheading: Not essential, but removing spent flowers can help improve appearance and may modestly extend flowering under optimal conditions.
Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a low-phosphorus, slow-release fertiliser suitable for Australian natives. A second light application in late summer may be used if growth slows. Avoid high-phosphorus fertilisers, which can harm the plant’s sensitive roots.
Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture during the establishment phase and throughout dry periods. Boronia lutea prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Apply a light organic mulch, such as pine bark or leaf litter, keeping it away from the crown to avoid rot.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free, though occasional aphids or leaf-chewing insects may appear on new growth. Treat with a gentle insecticidal soap if needed, ensuring it's safe for native species.
Disease Management: Highly sensitive to poor drainage—root rot is a common issue in wet or compacted soils. Ensure free-draining soil and avoid overwatering. To reduce fungal risk, maintain airflow through light pruning and avoid crowding. Sudden dieback can occur; prevent stress by keeping watering and soil conditions steady.
