Azalea Aline
Azalea Aline is a compact, evergreen azalea admired for its abundant crisp white, double flowers. Flowering in mid to late Spring, this variety brings a soft touch to shaded garden areas and pairs beautifully with other acid-loving plants.
Ideal for woodland borders, shaded beds, and container displays, Aline thrives in part shade with well-drained, acidic soil enriched with organic matter. It requires regular watering in dry conditions and benefits from protection from harsh afternoon sun. Space 70–90cm apart to allow for healthy, bushy growth.
Grows to around 1–1.2m tall and 1m wide at maturity, forming a dense, floriferous shrub with seasonal charm.
Trimming: Lightly prune just after flowering to maintain shape and remove any dead or straggly growth. Avoid hard pruning, as azaleas flower on old wood.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers by hand to tidy the plant and encourage better flowering the following season.
Fertilising: Use an acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring and again after flowering. Avoid overfeeding, as this can damage roots.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during establishment and dry periods. Azaleas prefer cool, moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Mulch annually to retain moisture and regulate temperature.
Pest Control: Watch for lace bugs, thrips, and spider mites—especially in warm, dry weather. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
Disease Management: Susceptible to petal blight and root rot. Remove affected flowers or foliage promptly, and ensure good drainage and airflow. Avoid overhead watering to help prevent fungal issues.
