Rose Souvenir de la Malmaison

Rosa 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' is a classic Bourbon/Noisette rose renowned for its large, fully double, pale blush-pink flowers that open flat with a delicate, old rose fragrance. Flowering from late spring through to autumn, this historic variety offers repeat flowering and is especially striking in cooler climates where its petals retain their perfect form. The lush, mid-green foliage and compact habit make it a favourite for both garden and container use.

Ideal for borders, feature planting, or containers near seating areas where its fragrance can be enjoyed. Complements heritage, romantic, and cottage-style gardens.

Prefers a sunny, sheltered position in fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid overly wet conditions, especially during flowering. Space approximately 90 cm apart when planting as a shrub.

Mature size: Reaches around 1.2 metres tall and wide, forming a compact, rounded shrub.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead, weak, or congested growth. Lightly shape the plant while preserving strong, healthy stems. This Bourbon rose benefits from an open structure to improve airflow.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage repeat flowering and maintain a tidy appearance, especially during the main flowering period.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring, followed by a second application after the first flush. Avoid late-season feeding to reduce risk of frost-sensitive growth.

Watering: Water deeply and consistently during dry periods, particularly while establishing. Ensure soil remains moist but well-drained to prevent root rot.

Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, thrips, and caterpillars. Treat promptly using insecticidal soap or neem oil, and check new growth regularly.

Disease Management: Susceptible to black spot and powdery mildew, especially in damp or humid conditions. Prune to maintain good airflow, remove affected foliage immediately, and use a preventative fungicide if necessary. Avoid overhead watering.
