Rose Phyllis Bide

Rosa 'Phyllis Bide' is a charming climbing rose known for its delicate sprays of small, semi-double flowers in soft shades of apricot, pink, and gold. Flowering continuously from late spring to autumn, this vigorous yet compact climber carries a light, sweet fragrance and features glossy green foliage that enhances its cottage-style appeal.

Perfect for training over arches, fences, or small trellises. Complements cottage, romantic, and informal garden styles.

Performs best in full sun with well-drained, fertile soil. Plant in a sheltered position and allow 1.5–2 metres between plants or structures for spreading growth.

Mature size: Grows to approximately 2.5–3 metres tall with a moderate spread, ideal for smaller climbing spaces.

Trimming: Lightly prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and remove any dead or damaged wood. As a vigorous rambler, it requires minimal pruning—just control size and train along supports. After flowering, trim back long, spent flowering stems to encourage new shoots.

Deadheading: Not necessary, as this variety often produces decorative hips. However, light deadheading can be done to tidy the plant if desired.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring and again after flowering. For ramblers, an additional autumn feed with a slow-release fertiliser can support root health.

Watering: Water deeply during dry periods, especially while establishing. Mature plants are fairly drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional deep watering in extended dry spells.

Pest Control: Keep an eye out for aphids and caterpillars. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations appear. Regularly inspect the undersides of leaves and young growth.

Disease Management: Generally disease-resistant, but may occasionally develop mildew or black spot. Prune to maintain good airflow, remove affected leaves, and use a fungicide preventatively if needed. Avoid overhead watering.
