Rose Chawton Cottage is a charming climbing rose known for its soft pink, fully double flowers carried in generous clusters. The petals have a gentle ruffled quality, and the plant exudes a strong old rose fragrance that adds sensory appeal to any space. This variety is repeat-flowering, ensuring a long-lasting display from late spring through to autumn. Its lush green foliage provides the perfect backdrop to the pastel-toned flowers.

Ideal for training over arches, pergolas, trellises or walls, Rose Chawton Cottage brings a romantic touch to cottage gardens, traditional borders, or fragrant garden settings. It also suits informal garden designs and can be used to soften structures or boundaries.
Plant in a full sun position for best flowering performance. Prefers rich, well-drained soil with consistent moisture, though not waterlogged. Space approximately 1.5–2 metres from other climbers to allow room for its vigorous growth and to encourage good air circulation.

A vigorous climber reaching approximately 2.5–3 metres high with a spread of up to 2 metres.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Remove dead, weak, or overcrowded stems to maintain an open shape. After the first flowering, lightly trim to encourage repeat blooms.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to prolong the flowering season. Cut just above a strong leaf node to stimulate further growth.

Fertilising: Apply a rose-specific fertiliser in early spring, then again after the first flowering flush. A late summer feed helps sustain healthy growth and flowering into autumn.

Watering: Water deeply once or twice a week during dry periods, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged. Newly planted roses need consistent watering to establish strong roots.

Pest Control: Watch for common pests such as aphids and spider mites. Use insecticidal soap, neem oil, or encourage natural predators like ladybirds to manage infestations.

Disease Management: Susceptible to black spot and powdery mildew. Improve air circulation by spacing plants adequately and removing any fallen leaves. Treat with a fungicide if necessary and avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
