Salvia White
Notify MeSalvia White is a compact, long-flowering perennial featuring pure white, tubular flowers held on upright spikes above aromatic green foliage. Flowering from late spring through to autumn, it provides a fresh, clean accent in borders, containers, and pollinator-friendly plantings. Reaching around 40-60 cm high and 30-40 cm wide, it brings soft contrast and structure to cottage, Mediterranean, and modern garden styles.
Plant in full sun with well-draining soil. Tolerates dry conditions once established and benefits from regular deadheading to extend flowering. Space plants 30-40 cm apart to encourage healthy growth and airflow. Trim back lightly in early spring to maintain a compact, bushy form.
Trimming: Lightly trim after the first flush of flowers to encourage repeat flowering and maintain a compact shape. Cut back hard in late autumn or early spring to promote strong new growth.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower spikes regularly to extend the flowering period and keep the plant looking tidy.
Fertilising: Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced or high-potassium liquid fertiliser to support flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment and in dry spells, particularly over summer. Once established, Salvias are fairly drought-tolerant but still benefit from occasional deep watering.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, but monitor for aphids or whiteflies in warm weather. Use insecticidal soap if necessary.
Disease Management: Salvias are typically disease-resistant. Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of powdery mildew, and ensure good air circulation by not overcrowding plants. Remove any affected foliage promptly.
