Pratia pedunculata County Park is a cute, small-leafed groundcover with star-like bright-blue flowers. Avoid sunny dry spots in garden. Part shade, well-drained soil. Great for growing in between paving stones and rocks.
Trimming: Clip or shear lightly after the main flush of flowering to keep the mat tidy and encourage fresh, dense growth. Edge back any runners that creep into lawns, paths, or neighbouring plants.
Deadheading: Not necessary, but a light post-flowering trim acts as a “deadhead” by removing spent flowers and prevents the patch looking scruffy.
Fertilising: Feed in spring with a light sprinkle of balanced, slow-release fertiliser (or a thin layer of compost) to support steady coverage. Avoid overfeeding, which can cause soft, sappy growth.
Watering: Keep evenly moist while establishing. Once settled, it still performs best with regular moisture—don’t let it completely dry out in summer, and avoid hot, sunny, dry spots.
Pest control: Watch for slugs/snails and aphids (ragged holes, silvery trails, sticky new growth). Use slug bait/traps and hand removal at dusk; treat aphids with insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease management: In overly wet, still conditions, look for rot or fungal leaf spotting (blackened patches, thinning areas). Improve drainage and airflow, avoid overwatering, and trim out affected sections to healthy growth.
