Pratia angulata

Pratia angulata, also known as Lobelia angulata, Panakenake or White Star Creeper, is a charming and versatile ground cover with small rounded foliage that forms a dense carpet. From spring to autumn it is adorned with tiny, white star-shaped flowers that are followed by red berries.

This New Zealand native is great for ground cover, rock gardens, or filling in gaps between stepping stones.

Pratia angulata thrives in a variety of conditions, from full sun to partial shade, and prefers moist, well-drained soil. It's also tolerant of wet conditions, making it a great choice for areas near ponds or streams.

Typically grows to approx. 15cm high and spreads 1m wide.

Trimming: Trim back Pratia angulata lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage new growth. Remove any dead or damaged stems throughout the year.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid excessive fertilisation, as this plant prefers moderate nutrient levels.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and during dry periods. Pratia angulata prefers consistently moist soil but should not be waterlogged.

Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as slugs and snails, which can damage the foliage. Use slug pellets or other appropriate methods to control infestations.

Disease Management: Pratia angulata is generally disease-resistant. However, ensure good air circulation and avoid overwatering to prevent fungal issues. If signs of disease appear, treat with a suitable fungicide.
