Peony Pillow Talk
Peony 'Pillow Talk' is a beautiful herbaceous variety featuring large, fully double, soft pink flowers with a delicate ruffled texture. The gently cupped petals gradually fade to a lighter blush, creating a romantic, layered effect. Lightly fragrant, this late-season peony is a prolific flowerer with strong stems that hold its lush flowers upright. Its deep green foliage remains attractive throughout the growing season, adding structure and contrast to garden beds and borders.
Perfect for garden beds, borders, and cut flower arrangements. Adds soft colour and texture to perennial plantings.
Thrives in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-draining soil. Space plants approximately 60 cm apart for optimal growth and airflow.
Grows to around 80–90 cm tall and 60–80 cm wide.
Trimming: Cut back foliage to ground level in late autumn once it has died back to encourage healthy regrowth in spring.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to maintain a tidy appearance and redirect energy into root development rather than seed production.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring as new growth emerges. After flowering, use a low-nitrogen fertiliser to support root health and encourage future flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can reduce flowers.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during the growing season, particularly in dry periods. Deep, infrequent watering is best to promote strong root growth.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids on young shoots and treat with insecticidal soap or a strong spray of water if needed.
Disease Management: Peonies can be prone to botrytis blight, which causes blackened stems and bud rot. Remove affected areas immediately and ensure good air circulation. Avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal risks. A copper-based fungicide may help if problems persist.
