Lampranthus Coral Explosion
Notify MeLampranthus 'Coral Explosion' is a vibrant, low-growing succulent ground cover prized for its dazzling coral-pink, daisy-like flowers that bloom en masse from spring through summer. The vivid flowers open in full sun and contrast beautifully against its fleshy, blue-green foliage. With a spreading, mat-forming habit reaching around 15-20 cm high and up to 60-80 cm wide, it’s perfect for coastal, Mediterranean, rock, and low-maintenance garden styles.
Plant in full sun with free-draining soil. Highly drought-tolerant once established and ideal for hot, dry sites. Space plants 30-40 cm apart for fast coverage. Requires minimal maintenance-just remove spent flowers and occasional trimming to keep tidy. Avoid wet or poorly drained soils, particularly in winter. A stunning, sun-loving option for bright ground cover and erosion control on banks or slopes.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to encourage a compact, tidy shape and stimulate further flowering. Remove any leggy, damaged, or dead stems throughout the year to keep the plant neat.
Deadheading: Not essential, but removing spent blooms can improve appearance and encourage prolonged flowering.
Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a low-nitrogen, high-potassium fertiliser to support flowering. In containers or poor soils, a second light feed in mid-summer may be beneficial.
Watering: Water moderately during establishment and in extended dry periods. Once established, Lampranthus ‘Coral Explosion’ is highly drought-tolerant and prefers dry, free-draining soil. Avoid overwatering, especially in winter.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally, aphids may appear-treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.
Disease Management: Excellent airflow and well-drained soil will help prevent fungal issues such as stem rot. Avoid overhead watering and remove any soft, discoloured stems promptly. Ideal for sunny, dry locations.
