Erysimum Citrona Orange
Erysimum Citrona Orange is a vibrant and compact easy-care perennial wallflower that delivers a striking display of bright orange flowers. Flowers profusely from early spring through to late summer, adding a warm burst of colour to garden beds and containers.
Ideal for borders, rock gardens, and containers, where its compact habit and vivid flowers create eye-catching displays. It’s particularly suited to cottage-style gardens. Use it to brighten pathways, complement other perennials in mixed beds, or provide a lively accent in small spaces. The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to pollinators. Plant in a sunny location for the best flowering performance, though it will tolerate light shade. It prefers well-drained soil, thriving in both fertile and moderately poor conditions. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering.
Space plants 25–30 cm apart to create a dense, colourful display while allowing for airflow and healthy growth. Forms a compact mound approximately 25–30 cm in height and 30–35 cm in width.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to remove spent blooms and encourage a compact shape. Avoid cutting into old wood, as this may reduce regrowth.
Deadheading: Regularly remove faded flower spikes to prolong the flowering period and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser in early spring and mid-summer to encourage vibrant growth and abundant flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as it may lead to leggy growth.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment and sparingly thereafter. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids and flea beetles, which can damage foliage. Use insecticidal soap or organic controls if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure good drainage and avoid waterlogged soil to prevent root rot and fungal diseases. Remove any diseased foliage promptly to maintain plant health.
