Dichondra Emerald Falls
Dichondra Emerald Falls Has a mass of small, fan-shaped foliage and a low, spreading growth habit that is much denser than D. Silver Falls. They are evergreen and an excellent choice for ground cover, growing in hanging containers or for trailing over retaining walls. Thrives in full sun or partial shade where soils are free-draining. Heat tolerant but will need protection from frosts.
May grow to about 5cm x 100cm.
Trimming: Lightly prune in spring to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth. Trim back spent flower stems after flowering to keep the plant tidy.
Deadheading: Remove faded flowers to prolong flowering and enhance appearance.
Fertilising: Requires minimal feeding; apply a light dose of balanced fertiliser in spring if growth appears weak. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can reduce the plant’s aromatic qualities.
Watering: Drought-tolerant once established. Water occasionally during prolonged dry spells, but avoid waterlogging.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free, but watch for aphids on new growth. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap if necessary.
Disease Management: Rarely affected by disease. Ensure well-drained soil to prevent root rot and avoid excessive humidity to minimise fungal issues.
