Campanula lactiflora

Campanula lactiflora, known as milky bellflower, is a tall perennial with branching stems topped by airy clusters of soft lavender to pale violet flowers. Flowering from late spring through mid-summer, it brings gentle height and movement to garden borders while attracting bees and other pollinators.

It suits cottage, wildflower, and informal garden styles, thriving in full sun to part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Space plants 45–60 cm apart for best growth.

Mature size is around 90–120 cm tall and 45–60 cm wide, offering a graceful vertical element in the garden.

Trimming – Cut back spent stems to encourage new growth and possible repeat flowering. Trim to ground level in late autumn or early winter once foliage dies back.

Deadheading – Remove faded flowers regularly to extend the flowering period and prevent self-seeding.

Fertilising – Feed in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser. A light second feed after first flowering may help extend the display.

Watering – Water regularly during dry spells, especially in the first year. Once established, occasional deep watering during droughts is sufficient.

Pest Control – Watch for slugs and snails in spring—use organic deterrents. Treat aphids with soapy water or an organic insecticide if needed.

Disease Management – Generally disease-resistant. Look out for powdery mildew in dry conditions—remove affected leaves, improve air flow, and apply fungicide if needed.
