Notify MeCalibrachoa Superbells Grape Punch is a vibrant, trailing perennial grown as an annual in cooler climates, celebrated for its deep purple, petunia-like flowers with striking black centres and a vivid yellow throat. Flowering continuously from spring through to autumn, it adds rich colour and texture to hanging baskets, containers, and mixed plantings. With a spreading, cascading habit reaching around 15-25 cm high and trailing up to 40-50 cm, it’s ideal for cottage, coastal, and contemporary garden styles.
Plant in full sun with free-draining, fertile soil. Space 25-30 cm apart when planting in beds or containers. Water regularly but avoid waterlogged conditions. Deadheading is not required, but occasional trimming can refresh growth and encourage further flowering. Protect from frost and cold, wet soils.
Trimming: Lightly trim back stems by one-third in midsummer if growth becomes leggy to encourage a fuller shape and renewed flowering. Pinch back tips early in the season to promote bushiness.
Deadheading: No need to deadhead, as this variety is self-cleaning. However, occasional removal of spent flowers can help maintain a tidy appearance.
Fertilising: Feed every 1-2 weeks during the growing season with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser (such as tomato feed) to support continuous flowering, especially in containers or hanging baskets.
Watering: Water regularly, particularly in hot or dry conditions. Calibrachoa prefers consistently moist but well-drained soil. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely or become waterlogged.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids, thrips, and whiteflies. Inspect regularly and treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues like powdery mildew and root rot. Avoid overhead watering, and use free-draining potting mix in containers. Remove any yellowing or diseased foliage promptly.
