Bellis Bellissima Mix
Bellis perennis Bellissima Mix is a compact, long-flowering perennial producing masses of double daisy-like flowers in shades of white, pink, and red. Flowering from late winter through to late spring, this vibrant mix adds cheerful colour to cool-season beds, borders, and containers. Its tidy, low-growing form and repeat flowering habit make it a favourite for seasonal garden displays.
Ideal for cottage, formal, and spring-themed gardens, it works well as edging, in pots, or planted en masse for a carpet of colour.
Prefers full sun to part shade in rich, well-drained soil with regular moisture. Deadhead to prolong flowering. Space plants approximately 15–20 cm apart for a dense, uniform effect.
Mature size: Grows 15–20 cm high and spreads 20–25 cm wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim back after flowering to remove spent stems and encourage a tidy, compact habit. This can also promote a second flush of flowers in cooler conditions.
Deadheading: Regular deadheading of spent blooms encourages continuous flowering and maintains a neat appearance, especially in bedding displays.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during the flowering season to support prolonged flowering and healthy foliage.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods and while plants are establishing. Avoid waterlogging by ensuring good drainage, particularly in containers.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids and slugs, which may feed on young growth and flower buds. Use insecticidal soap for aphids and slug traps or barriers as needed.
Disease Management: Susceptible to powdery mildew in humid or crowded conditions. Ensure good airflow, avoid overhead watering, and remove affected leaves promptly. A mild fungicide may be used if necessary.
