Bacopa Blue

Bacopa monnieri Blue is a charming, low-growing perennial celebrated for its profusion of soft blue flowers that appear continuously from late spring through to early autumn. Its delicate, rounded leaves form a lush mat of greenery, making it an attractive addition to garden beds, containers, and hanging baskets. This cultivar is prized for its long flowering period and trailing habit, which adds softness and colour to garden edges.

Perfect for cottage, tropical, and coastal garden settings, it also works well around ponds or in rain gardens due to its affinity for moisture. Its trailing nature makes it a favourite for container displays and cascading over walls.

Prefers full sun to part shade and thrives in moist, well-drained soil. Keep soil consistently damp, especially in hotter months. Allow around 30 cm spacing when planting to encourage healthy spread.

Mature size: Reaches around 10–15 cm high with a trailing spread of up to 60 cm.

Trimming: Lightly trim in late summer to tidy the plant and encourage continued compact growth. Pinch back leggy stems throughout the season to maintain shape, especially in containers or hanging baskets.

Deadheading: Regular deadheading promotes prolonged flowering. However, many modern cultivars are self-cleaning, so manual deadheading may only be needed to tidy the appearance.

Fertilising: Feed fortnightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the flowering season (spring through early autumn) to support continuous flowering.

Watering: Bacopa prefers consistently moist soil—do not allow it to dry out completely. Particularly important during establishment and in containers, which dry out faster. Mulch can help retain soil moisture in garden beds.

Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, but keep an eye out for aphids or whiteflies. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.

Disease Management: Susceptible to fungal issues such as powdery mildew and root rot in poorly drained or overly damp conditions. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering. Treat with a fungicide if necessary, and remove any affected foliage.
