Preferred Conditions
Thrives in partial shade to full sun with well-draining, acidic soil. Prefers consistently moist conditions but does not tolerate waterlogging. Space plants approximately 60–90 cm apart for optimal growth.
Mature Size
Grows to a compact height of 60–90 cm with a similar spread, forming a dense, rounded shrub.
Trimming: Minimal pruning is needed. Remove spent flower clusters after flowering to encourage fresh growth. Lightly shape in late spring if necessary.
Fertilising: Apply an acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring and again in midsummer to promote healthy foliage and flowering. A mulch of compost or pine bark can help maintain soil acidity.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. Avoid waterlogging, as Andromeda prefers well-drained, acidic soil.
Pest Control: Watch for lace bugs, which can cause yellowing leaves. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.
Disease Management: Susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soil. Ensure good drainage and avoid excessive watering. Leaf spot or mildew can develop in humid conditions—improve air circulation and remove affected foliage if needed.
