Flowering from spring through to autumn, this variety has larger blooms than standard alyssum, creating a dense, cascading display. Its trailing habit makes it ideal for edging, rock gardens, and containers.
Uses and Garden Styles
Perfect for cottage gardens, rockeries, and mixed borders, Alyssum Snow Crystals provides long-lasting ground cover and softens garden edges. It also thrives in hanging baskets and pots, where it spills beautifully over the sides.
Preferred Conditions
Thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. Prefers moderate moisture but can tolerate short dry periods once established. Space plants approximately 15–20 cm apart for a lush, carpet-like effect.
Mature Size
Grows to 15 cm in height and spreads up to 30 cm, forming a dense, flowering mat.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to encourage fresh blooms and maintain a compact shape. A harder cut-back can help rejuvenate leggy plants.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. A liquid feed every few weeks during the growing season will promote continuous flowering.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during establishment. Once established, water during dry periods, but avoid overwatering as Alyssum prefers well-drained soil.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids, especially in warm weather. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.
Disease Management: Generally disease-resistant but can develop fungal issues in humid conditions. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of mould or mildew.
