Vitex lucens
Vitex lucens, also known as the Puriri tree, is an upright growing tree but given several decades it will spread out creating a lovely canopy. Attractive foliage is dark green with wavy edges and accompanied by pink-red flowers from late autumn to mid spring attracting tuis and bellbirds. Red berries follow which then attract kererus.
Grows well near the coast and will tolerate wind but only light frosts. Prefers free-draining soil.
Ideal for specimen planting in parks, along streets or at home.
Will grow to 10m+ but can be pruned to size.
