Coprosma robusta, commonly known as Karamu, is a fast-colonising shrub found in forest and scrub throughout New Zealand. It is like Coprosma repens but the leathery leaves are less glossy. Karamu produces masses of orange berries in late summer, attacting native birds. It is a hardy plant which can tolerate poor soil, sun and wind exposure, shade, and is very frost hardy. It is often used in revegetation plantings such as riparian and and shelter. Grows over 3m in height.
