Coprosma repens Beatsons Gold is a compact, rounded shrub with small, glossy leaves variegated in green and yellow. This hardy evergreen is well-suited to coastal conditions and can tolerate frosts, making it a versatile choice for a variety of climates. It thrives in full sun and can be grown as a feature plant, hedging, or groundcover. In spring, it produces insignificant pale green flowers, followed by bright red fruit in autumn, adding seasonal interest.

Beatsons Gold has attractive gold-variegated dark green foliage with hints of creamy white, and its upright, spreading growth habit makes it a striking addition to any garden. The small, glossy, round leaves are highly ornamental and remain vibrant throughout the winter. Additionally, its smooth khaki bark provides significant winter interest.

This shrub can be trimmed to shape and is perfect for borders, hedges, and garden beds. It also performs well in containers, making it ideal for patios and balconies. Plant Coprosma Beatsons Gold about 60-90 cm apart for optimal growth. Reaching a mature height and spread of 1 to 1.5 metres, this low-maintenance shrub offers year-round appeal and adaptability, enhancing the visual charm of any garden.

Trimming: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches as needed.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support vibrant growth. Avoid over-fertilising, which can lead to excessive growth and reduce foliage colour intensity.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in dry periods. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent waterlogging. Once established, Coprosma is fairly drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry spells.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free, but keep an eye out for scale insects and aphids. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.

Disease Management: Rarely troubled by diseases, but ensure good air circulation to prevent any potential fungal issues. Remove any diseased plant material promptly to maintain overall plant health.
