Arthropodium Te Puna
Arthropodium Te Puna is a compact, tidy form of the New Zealand native rengarenga lily, featuring strappy, arching green leaves and delicate sprays of white star-like flowers with purple and yellow accents. Flowering from late spring into early summer, it adds softness and movement to shaded garden areas. Ideal for native, woodland, and contemporary gardens, it grows best in partial to full shade with moist, well-drained soil. Space plants 40–50cm apart for a naturally clumping effect.
Mature Size: Forms a neat clump approximately 40cm high and 60cm wide.
Trimming: Cut back spent flower stems and remove any dead or damaged foliage in late summer or autumn to keep the plant neat and healthy. A light tidy-up in early spring promotes fresh growth.
Deadheading: Not essential, but removing faded flower stalks improves appearance and encourages the plant to focus energy on foliage growth.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. In nutrient-poor soils, a supplementary liquid feed mid-season can enhance flowering and overall vigour.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, ‘Te Puna’ is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods, especially in sunny or exposed sites.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Slugs and snails may nibble on tender new growth—control with pet-safe bait or manual removal if needed.
Disease Management: Low disease risk. Ensure good drainage and airflow around the plant, and remove old or decaying foliage to prevent fungal issues in damp or shaded areas.
