Philodendron Xanadu
Philodendron Xanadu is a lush plant with deeply cut, glossy green leaves that form a dense, rounded clump. It brings strong texture and year-round interest to indoor spaces, shaded patios, and frost-free garden settings, adding a fresh, leafy presence without overwhelming the space.
It is ideal for tropical-style planting, shaded courtyards, patio containers, and as a feature among other foliage plants. It also suits modern gardens, lush subtropical planting schemes, and sheltered urban spaces where its bold foliage can be fully appreciated.
Philodendron Xanadu performs best in bright indirect light or part shade, in rich, well-drained soil that stays lightly moist. It should be protected from harsh afternoon sun and cold conditions, with plants spaced around 80cm to 1m apart so they have room to develop their full shape.
At maturity, it forms a broad, tidy clump reaching around 1m high and 1.2m wide.
Trimming: Philodendron Xanadu benefits from occasional trimming to remove yellowing, damaged or overcrowded leaves and to keep its shape tidy. Use clean, sharp secateurs and cut stems back to the base where needed.
Fertilising: Feed during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks to encourage lush, healthy growth. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows.
Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist during the establishment phase, watering when the top layer begins to dry out. Once established, water during extended dry periods, but avoid waterlogging as this plant prefers free-draining soil.
Pest control: Watch for common pests such as spider mites, mealybugs and scale, particularly on indoor or sheltered plants. Check undersides of leaves regularly and treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
Disease management: Overly wet conditions can lead to root rot or fungal leaf spot. Signs include yellowing leaves, blackened stems or spotted foliage. Improve drainage, avoid overwatering, remove affected leaves, and apply a suitable fungicide if fungal issues persist.
