Miscanthus Morning Light
Miscanthus Morning Light is a graceful ornamental grass with very fine green leaves edged in soft white, giving the plant a light, shimmering appearance. Its narrow foliage forms a neat, arching clump that brings movement, texture, and brightness to the garden through the warmer months.
In late summer to Autumn, it produces airy flower plumes that rise above the foliage, adding extra height and seasonal interest. As the foliage matures, it develops warm golden tones, extending its appeal well into the cooler season.
This variety is ideal for mixed borders, mass planting, contemporary landscapes, and courtyard gardens. It pairs beautifully with perennial planting and works well wherever a soft, flowing form is needed to contrast with broader-leaved shrubs or more structured plantings.
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil with moderate moisture for best growth. Allow around 80cm to 1m spacing so each plant can develop its full shape. At maturity, it forms an upright, fountain-like clump approximately 1.2-1.5m tall and 80cm-1m wide.
Trimming: Cut back the old foliage to the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. This encourages fresh growth and maintains the plant’s appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth and robust foliage.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in prolonged dry periods. Ensure the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.
Pest Control: Miscanthus Morning Light is typically pest-resistant. However, keep an eye out for any unusual signs of damage and treat with appropriate organic insecticides if necessary.
Disease Management: This grass is generally disease-free. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases. If rust or leaf spot occurs, remove affected foliage and apply a fungicide if needed.
