Lime Bearss

Lime Bearss is a heavier bearing selection of Tahitian Lime which is well suited to cooler climates. Good size, seedless, juicy fruit, ideal for drinks or cooking. Great in pots. Needs good drainage, a warm position and protection from hard frosts. Grows to a height of 2m.

Trimming: Lightly prune after fruiting to shape the tree and remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. For hedging, trim more frequently to maintain a neat, dense form, but avoid heavy pruning in winter as it can reduce flowering and fruiting.

Fertilising: Feed with a citrus-specific fertiliser in spring and summer, following label instructions. Supplement with compost or well-rotted manure around the base to encourage strong growth and fruit development.

Watering: Water consistently during establishment, particularly in the first 1–2 years. Mature trees need extra watering during dry spells, especially when fruit is developing, to prevent splitting and ensure juicy, healthy limes.

Pest Control: Monitor for scale insects, aphids, and leaf miners. Treat infestations promptly with horticultural oil, insecticidal soap, or neem oil to protect foliage and fruit.

Disease Management: Watch for citrus canker, root rot, and sooty mould. Ensure good drainage, avoid overhead watering, and remove affected leaves or fruit. Fungicidal sprays may be necessary for persistent fungal infections.
