Meryta sinclairii, also known as the puka or pukanui, is a type of evergreen tree, native to New Zealand. It has large leaves and can grow up to a height of approximately 8 metres. This tree is best suited as a specimen tree, particularly in the rear of a large border featuring native plants or to create a tropical atmosphere. It is highly suitable for coastal gardens as it is resistant to both wind and salt and can also be used as a large informal hedge.
Field-grown plants are grown directly in open fields, enabling their roots to spread and develop naturally, resulting in larger size, established root systems, and increased resilience. When transporting these plants, hessian, a coarse fabric made from natural fibres like jute, is commonly used to wrap their roots, providing protection during transportation and handling.
