The striking floral display is complemented by textured green foliage and a graceful, arching habit, making it a stunning feature on trellises, fences, or pergolas.
Ideal for tropical, cottage, or contemporary gardens, Petrea volubilis Snow Stars thrives in full sun with free-draining soil and benefits from protection in cooler climates. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth. Space approximately 1.5-2 metres apart when planting along supports.
Forms a vigorous climber reaching approximately 3-4 metres high and 2-3 metres wide.
Trimming: Prune after flowering to control size, encourage branching, and maintain a tidy climbing habit. Light pruning throughout the growing season can help manage shape. Remove dead or damaged stems as needed.
Deadheading: Not essential, but removing spent flower clusters can help tidy the plant and may encourage further flowering in warm conditions.
Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser. For extended flowering, apply a liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Snow Stars is moderately drought tolerant but performs best with consistent moisture. Avoid overwatering - ensure soil is well-drained.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, but watch for aphids or mealybugs on young growth. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
Disease Management: Rarely troubled by disease. Ensure good drainage and avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal issues. Prune to improve air circulation and remove any yellowing or damaged foliage promptly.
