Ficus pumila, commonly known as Creeping Fig, is a vigorous and fast-growing evergreen climber that self-attaches to various surfaces, including walls and trellises, through adhesive aerial rootlets. This versatile plant is adorned with rich green, ovate, heart-shaped leaves that measure up to 5 cm in length. In its fruit-bearing form, the foliage becomes elliptic, thicker and shinier, with leaves extending up to 10 cm. The plant may also produce pear-shaped purple fruits that are 5cm long, although these are rare on indoor plants. Creeping Fig is ideal for both indoor and outdoor settings, thriving in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soils. It can grow up to 3-4.5m tall and 1-1.8m wide.
The plant is virtually disease-free but should be monitored for pests like red spider mites, thrips, mealybugs and scale insects, especially when grown indoors. It is also toxic to dogs, cats and horses. Whether you're looking to cover a wall or trellis, or searching for a low-maintenance ground cover, Ficus pumila is an excellent choice

Trimming: Minimal pruning is required. Trim back any dead or damaged foliage in early spring to maintain a tidy appearance.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower heads after flowering to encourage a neat form and prevent seed production.
Fertilising: Apply a light feeding of a balanced fertiliser in spring, particularly if your soil is poor. Over-fertilising can harm this plant, so be conservative.
Watering: Water sparingly, as Pachystegia insignis thrives in well-drained, dry conditions. Water only during prolonged dry spells, especially in its establishment phase.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free, though slugs or snails may occasionally cause damage to young shoots. Use organic slug pellets or barriers to manage them.
Disease Management: This plant is highly disease-resistant, but overwatering can lead to root rot. Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogging, particularly in heavy soils.
