Amelanchier canadensis - Bare-Rooted

Amelanchier canadensis, commonly known as the Canadian Serviceberry or Shadbush, is a versatile deciduous shrub or small tree appreciated for its ornamental beauty and edible berries. This plant features clusters of delicate white flowers in early spring, followed by small, dark purple fruit in summer, and vibrant red and orange foliage in autumn.

The Canadian Serviceberry is ideal for use as a specimen plant, in mixed borders, or as part of a naturalised garden setting. Its attractive multi-seasonal interest makes it a great choice for woodland gardens, wildlife gardens, and even edible landscapes due to its fruit, which is a favourite of birds and can be used in jams and pies.

It suits cottage gardens, woodland gardens, and wildlife gardens. Its graceful form and seasonal changes make it an attractive addition to almost any garden style. Amelanchier canadensis thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, moist soil. It is adaptable to a range of soil types but performs best in slightly acidic conditions.

When planting, space the Canadian Serviceberry approximately 2-3 metres apart to allow for its mature spread. This plant typically reaches a height of 4-6 metres with a spread of 3-4 metres.

What is a bare-rooted tree?

Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport. 

What are the benefits?
