The Brief
An easy care garden that ensures full access around the property, featuring lawn areas and vertical elements to anchor the two story house while retaining north viewshafts of the surrounding landscape.

Why We Chose These Plants
To meet the client's need for a cohesive, low-maintenance garden, we began by selecting trees and larger shrubs to define the space. Magnolia Little Gem was chosen for its evergreen nature and elegant white flowers in spring and summer, providing year-round structure and seasonal interest. Beneath the magnolias, we planted Hydrangea Blue Prince, creating a neat view from the south-facing bedroom windows.

For the hedging, we used Griselinia Ardmore Emerald to establish a lush, low-maintenance green boundary. Along the side of the house, we planted three Acer Seriyu trees, selected for their delicate leaves and brilliant autumn colors, adding both seasonal interest and vertical structure. Lomandra Evergreen Baby was included to provide year-round grassy texture, softening the design with minimal care.

Pittosporum Stevens Island was used to separate the two units, ensuring privacy. Lavender Hidcote and Gaura So White bring flowering interest and attract pollinators without demanding much upkeep.

Pittosporum Golf Ball is paired with Chionochloa Flavicans, providing two contrasting textural plants. Poa Cita was selected to line the narrow north garden, creating a super low-maintenance strip that withstands full sun while tying in with the surrounding Central Otago landscape. Cupressus Totem offers vertical interest, strategically positioned along the tall brick walls of the building.

This garden is designed to be visually striking and easy to maintain, remaining vibrant and inviting throughout the year, perfectly aligning with the client's preference for a classic-contemporary, low-maintenance landscape.
