Muehlenbeckia astonii - a particular kind of native shrub

If you have visited the Auckland Botanic Gardens recently, you will have seen it. Commonly known as shrubby tororaro, Muehlenbeckia astonii is a very versatile and unique native shrub. Its texture makes it a particular asset in landscaping. It can be manipulated into an architectural shape, becoming a focal point in a garden.  Otherwise, can be used as an informal hedge or grown over rocks.   

Extremely hardy, Muehlenbeckia astonii is brilliant for coastal locations and tolerates dry, windy, and exposed situations once established. Prefers sunny areas and well-drained spots.
