Mesembryanthemum Pinkie is a low-growing, spreading succulent with fleshy green foliage and bright pink daisy-like flowers that appear from spring through to autumn. Its vibrant colour and drought tolerance make it ideal for rock gardens, coastal planting, pots, and dry, sunny borders.
Plant in full sun with free-draining soil. Thrives in poor, sandy soils and tolerates drought and coastal conditions. Requires minimal maintenance; trim lightly to control spread if needed. Space plants 30 to 40 centimetres apart for groundcover use.
Grows to around 10 to 15 centimetres tall and spreads up to 60 centimetres wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact, spreading form and encourage new growth. Remove any leggy or damaged stems throughout the season.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to promote continued flowering and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a light dose of balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. Avoid overfeeding, as excessive nutrients can reduce flowering.
Watering: Water sparingly. During establishment, water regularly, then reduce frequency. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and prefers dry conditions. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally monitor for aphids on new growth and treat with insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease Management: Rarely affected by disease. Avoid overhead watering and ensure well-drained soil to prevent fungal issues or rot. Remove any soft or discoloured stems promptly.
