Aloe plicatilis, commonly known as the Fan Aloe, is a distinctive and architectural succulent tree that features fleshy, strap-shaped blue-grey leaves arranged in fan-like formations on forked branches. This unique habit, combined with its striking red tubular flowers that bloom in late winter to early spring, makes it an eye-catching statement plant. The flowers attract birds and pollinators, adding life and colour to the garden.

Perfect for rock gardens, Mediterranean landscapes, or as a feature plant in modern designs. Thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil and minimal watering once established. Protect from heavy frost and avoid overwatering. Plant with ample space to accommodate its mature form and striking structure.

Reaches a mature height of 3–5 m and a spread of 2–3 m, creating a sculptural focal point that adds both height and drama to the garden.

Trimming: Remove dead, damaged, or wilted leaves with a clean, sharp knife or scissors. Trim flower stalks after flowering to redirect energy to the plant.

Fertilising: Apply a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser in spring and summer, once a month, to encourage healthy growth. Avoid fertilising in autumn and winter.

Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, ensuring the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot. Reduce watering during cooler months.

Pest Control: Check for pests such as mealybugs or aphids on leaves and in crevices. Wipe off pests with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol or use insecticidal soap.

Disease Management: Overwatering can cause root rot. Look for signs like soft, mushy leaves or a foul odour. Remove affected roots and repot in fresh, well-draining soil.
