Prunus Accolade - Flowering Cherry. Semi-double rich-pink flowers. Early flowering. Has a spreading habit. 5x5m
Trimming: Trim after flowering to maintain a balanced shape and remove dead, damaged, crossing, or congested branches. Avoid heavy pruning, as ornamental cherries are best kept to a natural form, and cuts should be kept clean to reduce disease risk.
Deadheading: Deadheading is not required. Spent flowers naturally fall away as the tree moves into leaf.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring if growth is weak or the soil is poor. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can promote soft growth that is more vulnerable to pests and disease.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment, especially through the first growing season. Once established, provide deep watering during extended dry periods, particularly in hot or windy conditions.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, scale, caterpillars, and mites. Treat infestations early with insecticidal soap, horticultural oil, or appropriate biological controls, and remove heavily affected shoots if needed.
Disease Management: Watch for silver leaf, bacterial canker, leaf spot, and powdery mildew. Signs include branch dieback, oozing gum, silvered foliage, spotted leaves, or white powdery growth. Prune only in dry weather, remove infected material, improve airflow, and avoid waterlogged soil.
