Lophozonia menziesii

Lophozonia menziesii, also known as Silver Beech or Tawhai, is a tall and attractive tree native to New Zealand. It features silver bark and is particularly suited for cool, moist sites at higher altitudes and in the southern regions of the country. The tree can grow up to 30 metres tall and has a trunk that may be up to 2 metres in diameter. It requires consistent moisture and shelter for optimal growth. It has good quality deep-red timber and can also be clipped to form a hedge. The tree is evergreen and hardy, reaching a mature height of 25 metres and a width of 5 metres. The growth rate is medium, and the tree can reach a height of 3 metres in 5 years.
