Fagus sylvatica Purpurea, commonly known as Copper Beech, is a classic tree that can grow to extraordinary height given favourable conditions. It has a long, slender trunk that greys with age. Glossy, dark-purple leaves appear in spring and fade to a copper-bronze tone towards the end of summer. Slow growing as a specimen tree but spectacular with time. It has shallow roots so a sheltered spot is preferred. It also makes a great deciduous hedge as it responds well to trimming. Mature height 15m+.
