Eucalyptus sideroxylon Rosea is a hardy evergreen tree valued for its deep pink to rose-coloured flowers that appear from late winter into spring. Its dark, furrowed bark and slender grey-green leaves create a striking contrast, making it a standout feature in larger gardens and landscapes.
Thriving in full sun with well-draining soil, Eucalyptus sideroxylon Rosea suits native, rural, and Mediterranean garden styles. It is drought-tolerant once established and resilient to poor soils. Allow plenty of space, as it typically grows 10–15 metres tall and 6–8 metres wide, developing a strong, upright form.
Trimming: Minimal trimming is required. Light formative pruning during early growth helps develop a strong, upright structure. Remove any damaged, dead, or crossing branches in late summer after flowering.
Fertilising: Fertilise lightly in early spring with a balanced, low-phosphorus fertiliser suited to native plants. Mature trees typically thrive without regular feeding unless soil conditions are extremely poor.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment (the first 1–2 years), particularly during dry spells. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant, needing only occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant. Monitor young trees for signs of sap-sucking insects such as psyllids; treat infestations with horticultural oil or natural insecticides if necessary.
